walking go-kart track cycling around the Mar Menor, horse riding, fishing, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, wake boarding, jet skiing, windsurfing, speed boating, kite surfing, diving hang-gliding quad biking tennis clubs bird watching segway
This
setting has everything you need for water sports: great weather, a constant
breeze, calm and shallow waters (the Mar Menor is less than seven metres at the
deepest point) ... there is no wonder it is considered one of Europe's best
sailing destinations. The two distinct seas and significant sporting infrastructures makes La Manga
a sailors paradise. Throughout the length of La Manga there are teaching centers
which means that no one need travel far to learn or practice
their water sport; sailing, canoeing,
water skiing,
wake boarding, jet skiing, windsurfing,
speed boating, kite
surfing, diving and most other nautical sports.
Apart from the water
sports, La Manga offers a great
variety of other activities to suit all tastes such as hang-gliding,
paragliding, horse riding,
fishing, mountain biking,
quad biking,
mountaineering, walking and
bird watching at the nearby nature reserves. The world famous La
Manga Club is within 30 minutes drive with many quality golf courses close by.
There are tennis clubs with courts open to the public all year
round (paddle
tennis court on site) and squash in addition to a roller-skating rink and full size go-kart
track. The road which runs through La Manga has been built to offer the cyclist
the safety of a cycle-lane and theres an absence of hills throughout the
strip. For the explorer, cycling around the Mar
Menor, along footpaths, dirt tracks and even ancient
royal roads, always close to the water, is a good way of discovering this special piece of coastline.
If you want to try something different why not take a segway
tour around Cartagena, San Pedro or Murcia.
Blue flag beaches and boat trips make La Manga a favourite place for all the family. You can indulge in your own mud therapy for free on the nearby Mar Menor beach where you can scoop mud from the sea and cover yourself from head to toe. If you fancy a bit more pampering there is a 5 star spa hotel next door offering relaxing massages or choose from a number of hotels on the strip or La Manga Club spa.
Golf
The world famous La
Manga Club is within half an hour drive, with many quality golf courses close
by including the new DeVere Roda Golf.
La
Manga Club is home to 3 magnificent 18 hole championship
courses which all benefit from uniquely tranquil surroundings with superb views.
La Manga Club is considered one of Europe's finest golfing destinations and has
played host to many international tournaments. There
is a driving range a couple of minutes drive from the apartment which has its own 9
hole pitch and putt course. I can provide further information about the local
courses and booking your golf tee times.
Boat Trips
The
foot ferry provides a regular service from the marina across the Mar Menor to
the town of Santiago de la Ribera. The trip across
the lake is very pleasant and takes half an hour. A market is held on
Wednesdays and the Spanish Air Display team practices here, so you
will often see an impressive air display. You will find a ferry timetable in my
guest manual. There are excellent sandy beaches at Santiago and some
interesting shops. It is relaxing to sit at one of the cafes on the front just
watching the world go by or to have lunch in one of the fish restaurants on the
beach.
The Med boat trip takes about one hour and takes you on a route past the
apartment and around a small island which is popular for divers and
snorkellers. The water is so clear that the boat stops to allow you to view the
marine life through the boat's glass bottom. We saw flying fish on the last
trip we took.There are
also longer boat trips in the Mar Menor which drop you off at an island for the
day. From
El Pedruchillo (Km 8) you can take a Five Islands boat tour (2 hours).
There is also a boat service to Los Alcazares.
Cartagena Port
Catamaran Cruise - Discover Cartagena by taking the catamaran cruiser. The
cruiser offer daily tours of Cartagena, taking approx 1 hour. From the sea you
can admire this historic fort and hilltop castles, you will also be able to
discover the harbour area. You can choose to get off at the fort to
look around before rejoining the boat trip around the harbour. The
tour departs from the quayside at Cartagena Marina, no need to book.Diving trips and boat hire can be arranged
at the marina.
Bus Tour
The Cartagena bus tour takes you on a leisurely tour around the ancient and
modern sights of Cartagena and takes about 30 minutes.
There are coach services to Murcia from La Manga strip, details are in my user guide.
